How to perform this exercise

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, barbell on the floor or in a rack at mid-shin height.
  2. Hinge at the hips until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor, keeping your back flat and core tight.
  3. Grip the barbell with an overhand grip slightly wider than shoulder-width.
  4. Let the bar hang at arm's length, directly below your shoulders.
  5. Row the bar up toward your lower chest or upper abdomen by driving your elbows up and back.
  6. Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top of the movement.
  7. Lower the bar back to the starting position in a controlled manner.
  8. Keep your torso angle consistent throughout — do not rock up and down with momentum.
  9. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
