Best iPhone workout tracker for lifters

The broad 'best fitness app' lists mix calorie counters with lifting logs and then act surprised that they feel different. This one is only about writing down weight training on an iPhone.

The test in the gym, not the App Store

Open a workout, find the exercise, enter weight and reps, start rest. If that takes longer than the walk to the water fountain, the app is wrong, even if the charts are pretty.

Then ask whether last month's numbers show up next time, whether a program survives more than one day, and whether a friend can receive the plan as a plan.

A short list that is actually about lifting

TrackYourLift is the log we build: programs, set logging, PRs, charts, sharing, Apple Watch with the iPhone nearby, and optional cloud AI. Free to use, Pro and Pro AI if you want the larger library and AI.

Hevy and Strong are the other logs people mean when they say 'gym app'. MyFitnessPal is a food log that happens to have workouts. Fitbod is closer to a generated daily session than to a program you edit. Each of those has its own comparison on this site, with prices we have actually sourced.

Ignore these requirements unless you have them

You do not need nutrition tracking to get stronger. You do not need a coach subscription to log a linear progression. You do need a place where Wednesday's top set is still there on Friday.

Where is the running watch comparison?

Not here. This list is for barbells, dumbbells, and machines. Use a run app for runs.

Which of these is free to start?

TrackYourLift is free to use, with optional paid tiers. The others have their own free and paid mixes. Check the current App Store listing before you assume.
